Health on the Move: Reaching Every Child with Vaccines & Care
About This Campaign
In the remote, nomadic communities of Samburu and Isiolo, the nearest health facility is often a two‑day walk — or longer. As a result:
1. Only 40% of children are fully vaccinated (national average is 80%)
2. 1 in 5 children dies before age 5 — mostly from preventable diseases: measles, diarrhea, pneumonia, malaria
3. Malnutrition rates exceed 30% in some wards — children are too weak to fight off common illnesses
4. Mobile pastoralist families rarely visit static clinics
The solution is to take health to them.
We will deploy two dedicated mobile health teams — each with a nurse, a community health worker, a driver, and a 4x4 vehicle. Each team will visit 20 remote villages every month, providing:
1. Vaccinations (measles, polio, pentavalent, rotavirus, pneumonia)
2. Malnutrition screening (MUAC tapes) and therapeutic feeding for severe cases
3. Malaria rapid tests and treatment
4. Vitamin A supplements and deworming tablets
5. Basic antibiotics for pneumonia and diarrhea
6. Health education for mothers (breastfeeding, hygiene, danger signs)
